Hi all,
It has been a good day. LYB Guest Designer was selected. The response for the challenge was incredible. So many talented artists stretching their worlds by taking a risk with their art. I'm awed by the talent that was submitted. We look forward to working with our next guest designer, Lowri McNabb. You will be inspired. She is looking forward to creating something special for all of you.
Summer is ending, and as usual it has appeared as if out of the blue.
Anyone else sad about this? School started for a lot of kids this week. We look forward to seeing some of your back to school photos. Please join us and become a facebook fan. Share your darling back to school photos with us on facebook, won't you?

Is there room for them to ask a question?
Kudos to Greta Hammond for sharing this cool chalkboard frame with us.

Here is our Wednesday Challenge. Share your favorite school memory with us. It can be funny. It can be sad. It is just your story. Did some special teacher have an impact on you? We'll choose three memories and send out a prize to you! Be brave. Join this challenge.
Looking forward to spending time with you this week.

believe it or not, my kids are still on summer vacation! My fav teacher was Mr Forrest, my 6th grade ultra cool science teacher who took a "no nonsense" but interesting way to teach us science and he taught us about accountability, respect and being responsible, especially in the labs...it was such an awesome blessing to see him at our all school reunion (i lived overseas as a kid) in 2010...he was still amazing after 34 years!!

I had a government teacher that was a little old lady. Her favorite saying..."A woman's place is in the house...or the senate, or anywhere else she wants to be". LOVED Mrs. Hinkle!!! She was so inspiring!!

I was a very difficult child. In 4th grade I had this teacher, Mrs. Sotille, she took me on and showered me with love and attention. There was a system for behavior where you got black dots if you didn't meet expectations, if you got so many black dots there were consequences. Every time I got a black dot she would joke with me that I would be the first girl to beat the boys in black dots. She just took so much time with me and I never forgot how she was NEVER cross with me...always kind and loving and it stuck with me all these years!

Oh yes, school memories! My earliest memory is from kindergarten when I made a wooden boat by nailing several pieces of wood in a stacked shape. There I was, pounding away and so proud of my "boat". That is, until I turned to walk toward the teacher and found that I had nailed my dress in between 2 pieces of wood and right into the saw horse! My teacher came to the rescue, but I always remembered that funny incident!

I went to school at St. John's for grade school. After high school, I went to school to be an Accountant. I wasn't happy so I went back to school to be a teacher. I was so happy when I got a job teaching at my old grade school - St. ohn's. I loved working there and loved teaching the kids and making a difference in their lives. Then, last year something very sad happened to me. I lost my job there and haven't had a job for a year. My dream job of teaching at my grade school had come to an end. I loved teaching at my grade chool and now I'm unemployed :(

School memory...do I really want to go there?? Well, here goes. I don't know that it is my favorite but it is very memorable. I was in first grade and somewhat shy at that point. I had told the teacher I needed to go to the bathroom and she said no, I would have to wait, well, being little, waiting wasn't an option, so I sit quietly at my desk and went in my pants and never said a word. The class floor had a slight slant and you the get the picture, the boy in front of me got his feet wet and told the teacher. Needless to say, she let me go the bathroom then. I was so embarrassed and every year, my classmates would remind me of the incident. When the speech was given at our high school graduation, they even mentioned it from the podium, talk about wanting to crawl under my chair. Ugh...not my best memory, but definitely memorable!

I was a book nerd from a very young age. I loved school, I loved reading and I especially loved Nancy Drew. I remember taking my Nancy Drew books to elementary school with me and reading them under the stairwell with one of my school friends.

Hope you don't mind a 2nd but the same teacher... 5 of us were seniors and decided it was time to take our "senior hook day". It was a beautiful May day so we went to the National Zoo. What can I say. We were serious geeks/goody-goodies and just hooking was a MAJOR deal for a few of us. However, one of our group had a major crush on a member of the tennis team and decided we HAD to go back to school after hours to see him practice. Nevermind the tennis coach was that English teacher I previously mentioned AND had 2 of our group in a Sr. Journalism class so OBVIOUSLY knew that we weren't in school. So there we were, hanging out by the tennis courts when he saw us. He walked up and asked, "Where were you girls today?" I blurted out the obvious answer, "We were... ahh... watching animals... ahhh... interacting in their natural habitats." His response: "You went to the zoo?" We all said, "We went to the zoo!" The advantage of being known as the good kids in school was his final comment, "Ok. See you tomorrow." Nothing else was ever said about our day off.

Congrats Lowri! School memory... Sophmore year, high school. The Eng. Lit. teacher was supposed to be a nightmare. During the first week of school, I was in the front row and had my legs stretched out in front of my desk. The teacher was reading Jonathan Edwards', "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." The sermon was early American Lit. and in our text book. He was storming around the room in character but tripped over my foot as he went by. He stopped a few seconds, basically taking a bit to remember where he was and get out of character, and said very mildly, "Excuse me." He then continued, without pause, back in character, on the next line of the sermon, "And God HATES you!" right at me and then kept working his way through the sermon around the room. That moment I realized he was going to be my favorite teacher that year.

I have a lot of good (and bad) school memories, but nothing that is really jumping out at me right now more than that totally awesome feeling you get when you worked your butt off at softball or volleyball tryouts and then see your name on the team list. My daughter just made the volleyball team and saw her name on that list for the first time and I know the feeling. Wonderful!

Congrats Lowri! I have 1st day of school on my mind. Probably since my oldest just had his first day of preschool last week. I always loved school, but still, every year, the morning of the first day of school I was filled with so much anxiety that I would be close to tears (and I wasn't much for crying). I felt even more ridiculous b/c I knew how much I really did love school and learning, but the first day is always so full of anxiety. It broke my heart this year when the morning of my son's first day of school (his 2nd yr. of preschool) he said, "I'm kind of nervous, Mom." I know he loves school and learning, too, so we just talked about how it's okay to be nervous when we do new things, but we can't let that keep us from trying.

In 1961 I was in the 2nd grade and I only remember this moment ...I do not know what I did to deserve this corporal punishment !!!! but my teach, Mrs. Hargraves, came up behind me and pulled me out of my chair by my left ear and pulled me to the front of the classroom .... that is my memory ... I was a very quiet child .... maybe I was whispering or something !!!!

Lowri, Congratulations! I saw your work on Facebook. Your Flower Rosette bouquet is just beautiful!
I still remember my special memory like it was yesterday [that's saying a lot since it was a million years ago..lol]!
My Biology Teacher, Mr. Childer's got ready to teach and he tells us he 'has' to teach Evolution. Then exclaims, 'Ok, I just did! Please, turn your books to page 120'!
After class, he explained that even though he doesn't believe in evolution as a teacher he had to uphold the Rules and still uphold his beliefs.
Not only did That day in class, stay with me through-out my teen years but it had an impact on the Rest of My Life!
Bless, Mr. Childers!

Congrats Lowri! Can't wait to see what you create!
My favourite school memory is when I moved from Quebec to Ontario and finally got English in the classroom! I couldn't spell or write very well prior to this and I met two special teachers who whipped me into shape in no time at all! Although I didn't appreciate having to spend extra time with the teacher at recess at the time, I realize what a special effort they put in for me and it really helped a lot!
