Thank you for joining me today. My name is Sally Lynn MacDonald, and I have had the great fortune to be working with the ART-C brand since late October. I'm super excited to show you how to incorporate these products into your scrapbooking, card-making as well as mixed-media art projects.
The year is coming to a close and what is better than to start out organized? Today I wanted to show how you can use the ART-C brand of mixed-media products with the Savor collection from Little Yellow Bicycle to customize a perpetual calendar.
If you haven't heard of one before, a perpetual calendar is a calendar that shows the days of the month in a list format, which allows you to use the calendar for every year. You can put important annual events, such as birthdays on the list so that you can refer to them and stay organized. A perpetual calendar makes a wonderful gift too.
I started with the travel journal album from the Pack Your Bags collection for my base.
The inside pages are lined with a border and otherwise blank, except for a date / reference box in the lower corner. There are 10 pages, which you could use front/back to cover 12 months and several notes pages, or, you can also use a binding system to add additional pages.
I took two sheets of the die-cut cardstock from Savor and folded them in half, adhered back-to-back and added them to adjust the book to a total of twelve double-sided pages.
There is also a pocket folder page in the back of the book for placing cards, notes and small items, such as receipts or gift cards.
You can either write numbers along the border or use rubber stamps to fill in the days of the month and the name of the month along the margin and at the bottom of the pages.
To start I created a cover, using a natural canvas placemat from Canvas Corp. The book fit perfectly in the space, allowing a 1 1/2 inch margin on each side to create an insert pocket.
I used some Helmar 450 glue along the seam line at the top and bottom of my pockets, and clipped it with a binder clip for a few minutes during drying time.
I used the ART-C Glitter Mist in Silver to stamp an image on the top and bottom of the front cover. My goal is to create a faded, vintage image. So I don't press too hard when stamping the image.
Then I outlined the image with a Pitt Artist Pen in green metallic.
I placed a canvas border strip along the binding edge, backed with some Helmar 450 adhesive to make a permanent bond.
Then I singled out one of the lace stickers, and flipped it over to expose the adhesive side and poured on this gorgeous sage green glitter from Art-C. Isn't that glass and cork-stoppered container wonderful?
Once it was covered, I gently shook off the loose glitter and placed the unused portion back into the bottle.
Then I placed a line of adhesive on the canvas and put the glittered lace sticker border in place, using the backing strip from the canvas sticker to push it onto the surface and work any loose glitter into exposed adhesive, if any.
Next, I selected the Vintage Ephemera kit, and cut out assorted phrases and images from the sticker sheet. This phrase, I placed on the coordinating die-cut cardstock piece to create a raised effect.
I customized the Savor canvas tag, with the quotation sticker placed on top and two pieces of patterned paper from the ART-C Vintage kit layered underneath. I used the metal and floral embellishments of the ART-C Vintage kit to add some dimensional elements to the cover.
I then put a Savor mini-banner across the top of my cover, and placed letters from the ART-C Vintage Monogram tablet to spell 'calendar'. I colored these with Copic Markers.
I used the layered cloth flowers from the ART-C Blue/Green Ephemera Pack underneath the layered buttons from Savor. I placed these on the front and back of the cover and looped a sueded cord from the a ART-C blue fibers assortment to create a closure for my calendar. Another canvas border sticker is here along with a lace sticker with gemstones horizontally on the front and back cover. The gemstones are also from the Blue/Green Ephemera Pack.
ART-C has a blog of its own, which has just been created at http://artc.typepad.com/. While we are busy getting ready for the CHA trade show next month, we will also be posting projects and step-out instructions there as well. Be sure to stop by and subscribe to the blog feed and 'Like' our product page on Facebook. Click on either image below to visit the ART-C communities.
