I hope all of you had a wonderful and crafty weekend!
Today we have the final project from our talented Acorn Hollow Guest Designer Kelly Goree that was inspired by her friend and author Courtney Walsh's new book A Sweethaven Homecoming. We have loved having these two women team up for some really great ideas, words of wisdom and great prizes.
Courtney Walsh
has written a series of heartwarming novels with themes including
friendship and scrapbooking. Today she shares some insights from her
Sweethaven books about home and has asked her good friend Kelly Goree to create a layout about the theme with our very own Acorn Hollow collection.
From Courtney --- As an author, it's hard to pitch a story idea that starts with loss. But it's such an important human emotion, and one we can all connect with. I chose to start my novel with a profound loss, one that radiates throughout all three novels...because that's what loss does. Like a ripple made from a stone thrown into the water, its effects keep moving outward.
But "loss" isn't only a difficult subject to write about. It's also difficult to scrapbook about. Sometimes our most precious photos are the ones that are hardest to look at. Really important memories are like that. There's something almost sacred about putting them down in your album. Still, I believe scrapbooking your grief is almost like therapy...and it has so many benefits. Kelly pulled from this aspect of the Sweethaven novels with her incredibly touching layout about her father. A layout that wasn't easy to create, but one she will surely cherish forever.
Kelly created this page withour gorgeous Acorn Hollow collection which can be used for both autumn and everyday layouts. We especially love what she did with the fabulous Acorn Hollow Paper Crafting Kit.
Journaling ---- I scored tickets for my football-loving father to see the Tennessee Titans play so you came to Nashville for the weekend to go. This photo was taken while we were tailgating – just before we walked the few blocks to the game. Those few blocks were hard on you and the few blocks back were even harder. I knew something wasn’t quite right, but I had no idea that that weekend would be the last time I ever saw you or that this photo would be the last of us together. Looking at this photo now I can see how sick you looked yet I treasure it. And while it hurts so much to look at, I’m so very grateful I have this.
GIVEAWAY 1 - We thought that the cover of Courtney's second book A Sweethaven Homecoming reminded us of our Acorn Hollow collection, so we are going to giveaway a copy of her book. Just tell us what you think about Courtney's thoughts on scrapbooking loss and we will choose a lucky winner from the comments.
GIVEAWAY 2 - be sure to add some praise for Kelly's project in your comment for a chance to win our entire Acorn Hollow collection. We'll choose a winner early next week!
Acorn Hollow Winner From Last Week:
Laura Bos said...Home is often messy, home is warm, home smells good -- although sometimes it's a picked up pizza and not homemade. Our home is not perfect, but it houses our family and all its love, so it's perfect for us.
Laura - please email me your shipping information at liz@mylyb.com. Thanks
Also - if you cannot find Acorn Hollow at your local scrapbook store, you can buy it directly from us HERE.
Check back tomorrow for another 12 Days of Once Upon a Christmas project from our Cycling Team.
We are so lucky to have another project from the super talented Kelly Goree that was inspired by her friend and author Courtney Walsh's new book A Sweethaven Homecoming.
Courtney Walsh
has written a series of heartwarming novels with themes including
friendship and scrapbooking. Today she shares some insights from her
Sweethaven books about home and has asked her good friend Kelly Goree to create a layout about the theme with our very own Acorn Hollow collection.
From Courtney---One of the most important things in my life is that sense of "home." Perhaps that's why it was so important to include the word "Homecoming" in the title of my second novel... because I think there's something universal about that feeling of belonging that you only get when you're home. It's a common theme throughout the novels as Sweethaven is the place my characters can go and truly feel like themselves...
Having moved around a LOT the past few years, Home is more important to me than ever...which is why for this second Sweethaven-inspired prompt, I asked my sweet and hugely talented friend Kelly Goree to create an Acorn Hollow layout that highlights the things she loves most about her home.
I didn't expect that topic to strike such a chord, but for Kelly, it's the home itself that has the most meaning. Having been in her family for four generations, there's something special about those four walls...and what better way to document it than in the pages of her scrapbook?
From Kelly--- My favorite thing about my home is my home itself. It was once my grandmother's and four generations of my family have lived here. The layout is a replica of my house and the doors and windows open to show you some features and give journaling about why this house is special to me.
The detail shot of the front door pretty much shows you exactly what you
see when you open my front door which I thought was fun.
Please visit Kelly's blog Behind the Pages for more amazing ideas and inspiration.
GIVEAWAY 1 - We thought that the cover of Courtney's second book A Sweethaven Homecoming reminded us of our Acorn Hollow collection, so we are going to giveaway a copy of her book. Just tell us what home means to you and we will choose a lucky winner from the comments.
GIVEAWAY 2 - please visit Kelly Goree's BLOG for a chance to win our entire Acorn Hollow collection. It's her birthday today, so be sure to wish her a happy one!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Biker Chick Robbie Herring shares an Acorn Hollow layout today, but let's have Robbie tell you all about it...
I'm finding it a bit sad that this is my last post with Acorn Hollow on the blog! I just love how adorable and versatile this collection is! You can be sure that I'm going to be holding on to everything that I haven't used and you'll be seeing it again in my galleries and on my blog.
I couldn't resist this sweet picture of a friend and her daughter that was taken last Thanksgiving. I wanted to have a place for her to journal herself and her daughter, so the 5 things pocket was the perfect solution. As I was putting the page together, I thought about how cute the shapes and details on the inserts were. I just made sense for me, the ultimate shape lover, to use them in my design as a banner instead of the intended way in the envelopes.
I also layered the 5 things large shape with journaling card and topped it with a few pieces from the chipboard, paper crafting kit and even a clear cut for some added interest to my page.
Because I already had a place for journalling I used the yellow journaling card as an added embellishment and simply added the names and date. You might notice that the white flower is a clear cut shape. I chose to add a foam dot behind it and was careful to chose one that fit inside of the 'stitching'. Popping up clear cuts is a fun thing to do and they stand up beautifully to the test of time in your scrapbooks. They are very tough to bend so they are actually a really great way to add some extra dimension.
Clustered embellishing in the lower right corner completes the balance of this layout. I mixed both the paper crafting kit and the clear cuts to this corner. Another tiny detail is the pop-up center of the white flower. I used a small punch and made the center from the Button, Button! paper. You might have noticed one on the other corner, too. It's a tiny little detail and finished off the centers of my flower with the colors I wanted to add in those small spaces.

Have a wonderful post Halloween day!
Time to get out the costumes and candy and prepare for a night of mischief and fun. It's Halloween and we wanted to celebrate with some ideas on how to make our Acorn Hollow collection the perfect palette for Halloween memories. Take a look at what our Biker Chicks Corrie, Vicki, Liz (me) and Suzanne came up with...
Acorn Hollow Page by Biker Chick Corrie Jones
One of our Halloween traditions is to carve pumpkins before trick or treating. I don't like moldy, sad jack-o-laterns so the day of is when the carving must take place. I have tried to teach each of my girls how to get a perfectly cleaned out pumpkin, but only my youngest is showing any signs that she is following in my pumpkin carving lovin' footsteps.

Acorn Hollow is one of my favorite LYB lines to date! I love the earthy colors and the copper foil effects totally ROCK!! To stretch the life of this product line I added a fun Halloween twist. The owls became witches with little paper pieced hats. I love when it all comes together easily and this page was a quick one. Happy Halloween!

Last year's Superman is this year's hero to be named. My son is a little obsessed with super heroes and was only too happy to be the cape wearing Superman, but this year he is between Spiderman and Thor. We will just have to wait and see which costume he chooses (since he conveniently has both stashed in his closet thanks go overly helpful relative if you KWIM). Love how the subtle blue colors in the Acorn Hollow collection can compliment this bright blue costume where other Halloween specific collections might clash with the man of steel.
These owls are just way too cute for their own good! Had to have them perch right over the hero himself. They are the watchful eyes of all the Halloween mischief and fun!
Use the banners in the Paper Crafting Kit to make a fun title. These banners fold and pop off the page, so I thought it would be fun to make a play on words for the title and instead of All Hallow's Eve, we have Fall Hallow's Eve. I know...corny! Don't forget the darling chipboard leaves to add some detail.

It wouldn't be Halloween without pirates! Use your Paper Crafting Kit and Journal Cards to make a fun pirate emblem. The distressing on the patterned paper also makes a perfect "aged" background almost like a treasure map for the little swashbuckler.

Please have a Safe and Happy Halloween!
We want to take a minute to send our thoughts to those in the path of Hurricane Sandy. It has been a crazy few days for many including our company in Connecticut. I (Liz) live in Colorado, but my whole family is on the East coast and you can bet I've been biting my nails waiting for them to be out of harms way. Hopefully today will send some relief... hang in there!
We have a special treat today all the way from "Hurricane Free" Australia. Our friend Melinda Spinks has created some amazing projects with our Acorn Hollow collection, but let's have Melinda tell you all about it...
Hello everyone, it's Melinda with you today. Well this is a little bit exciting to have such a wonderful opportunity to work with Acorn Hollow on my very first Cycling Team. And can I just say, the other AH team members have made some amazing projects so I hope I can keep the inspiration bike pedaling along (sorry couldn't resist)!
Each year I love to put together an Autumn wreath using some of my husband's (the farmer) wonderful grain crop so we can hang it on the door and be reminded of all his hard work. Acorn Hollow paired beautifully with the wheat and I had such fun making all the different flowers using the AH Paper Crafting Kit.
And here's the farmer's beautiful crop. And in case you are wondering, yes we make our own bread, well the farmer does and the kids love it. The AH Paper Crafting Kit allows you to mix and match each piece so you can create a lovely variety of flowers. And everything is pre-cut and pre-scored which removes all the guess work?
I couldn't resist the adorable little AH stick pins and sadly used everyone in the packet. However, they really completed the wreath and gave it that perfect finishing touch. Now I just have to make sure my daughter doesn't steal any as she was eyeing them off when she came through the door.

AH-305 Paper Crafting Kit (61 pieces)
AH-277 Stick Pins (15 pieces)
Autumn time on the farm is a hive of activity as the farmer prepares the paddocks for sowing of the new seasons crops. And the kids lend a hand by helping to clear the ground from fallen limbs of trees so I decided to create this layout to remind them of this time in their lives.
I just love the earthy tones and wonderful patterns within the AH paper selection which were ideal to use as falling autumn leaves. I cut the leaf shape from the background cardstock and placed different pieces of the patterned paper under each leaf.
I have never been able to go passed a collection that has trees and critters so I was delighted to see that Acorn Hollow was packed full of the cutest little pieces.

AH-102 Pretty Plaid/Flowered Dot
AH-108 Chevron Knit/Textured Gold
AH-111 Lichen Check/Lichen Text
AH-135 Cardstock Stickers - Favorite Pieces - with foil and embossing (36 pieces)
AH-140 Cardstock Stickers - Fresh Verse - with foil and debossing (43 pieces)
One of my all time favourite products would have to be the C;ear Cuts as I love the idea of being able to layer and still see a little of what's underneath. I used the AH Clear Cuts to put together two cards using the same basic pattern but altering the color-scheme and picture slightly for each one.
I also threw in a layer of burlap to compliment the neutral hues of the Acorn Hollow collection and to add some extra texture to each card.
How sweet is the little gumnut baby with the pretty foil embossing on the hat. I must admit, it's very difficult to photograph and I almost had to stand on my head to catch the right light.

So that's a wrap as I'm the final member of the Acorn Hollow Cycling team. And now that October is almost over with just Halloween remaining there will be a new team to showcase the beautiful Once Upon A Christmas collection.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Little Yellow Bicycle for having me along as part of the Acorn Hollow team, it's been absolutely wonderful and I've loved sharing this time with Audrey Pettit, Katrina Hunt, and Kris Berc.
Please visit Melinda's blog The Scrap Farm for more inspiration HERE.
Remember you can purchase the whole Acorn Hollow collection direct from Little Yellow Bicycle HERE.
Have a bright and safe day!
We are so excited to share more Acorn Hollow projects from our Cycling Team! Today we are so fortunate to have returning Cycling Team Member Kris Berc as our designer. We just adore her work and it has been so fun to watch her little girl get bigger each time Kris shares her work with us. Anyway - we want Kris to tell you all about it.
Hi everyone, it's Kris with you today. I am so grateful to have been invited back for another ride with the Cycling Team this month! I had an absolutely wonderful time creating with Acorn Hollow. The colors and patterns in this collection are just gorgeous and layer together wonderfully!
I adore the beautiful Acorn Hollow papers and embellishments so much... I couldn't resist squeezing as many of them onto my projects as possible! To create this layout's background, I layered 5 different pieces of the patterned paper.
I used the "Fall" chipboard letters for the title. Can you see the pretty flourish detailing on the letters? They come like that!
Little Yellow Bicycle's paper crafting kits are brilliant! Included is a large variety of pre-cut and pre-scored flowers, leaves, strips for accordion folded flowers, and other shapes. Without a doubt, these terrific kits are my favorite of Little Yellow Bicycle's embellishments. I've layered several of the flower pieces and leaves in this cluster, using foam squares behind many of the pieces for added dimensional interest. I've also included some chipboard shapes and a clear cut acorn. Tucked in the middle of it all is a cute blue flower-shaped stick pin.
This cluster consists of an accordion flower and leaves from the paper crafting kit, as well as some chipboard shapes and a cute little acorn from the clear cuts set.
I used foam squares behind the above 3 cardstock stickers. The debossing included on these stickers is a wonderful detail!

AH-305 Paper Crafting Kit
AH-277 Stick Pins
AH-140 Cardstock Stickers - Fresh Verse
AH-279 Chipboard Shapes
AH-230 Clear Cuts
For my second layout, I chose another set of 5 different patterned papers to layer for the background. I love to layer papers!
Here are some accordion flowers, layered flowers, and leaves from the paper crafting kit along with some cardstock stickers adhered with foam squares, chipboard leaves, and a totally adorable chipboard owl. See the cute red heart stick pin? Love those! I stuck it through one of the foam squares- don't want anyone to poke any fingers!
I layered 2 of the journaling cards and embellished them with some clear cuts flowers, a chipboard flower and acorn, and a super cute cardstock bird sticker. I tucked the cards a bit behind the photo (tip: adhere your photos using foam squares so that you have plenty of room underneath the edges of the photo for tucking embellishments in!) and then topped this cluster off with another sweet little owl chipboard piece, a foil-accented chipboard heart, and a clear cut heart.
The "family" chipboard piece is adhered at the bottom of this embellishment cluster with a foam square.

Acorn Hollow Layout by Biker Chick Tania Willis
Boy, oh boy, this Xyron Create A Sticker Maker is slick-stuff! Have y’all enjoyed seeing all the projects both here and on Xyron’s blog?
I’ll be honest, I used to get so frustrated with the limitations I had using my Xyron 1.5” Create A Sticker—you know the ever popular “X”. Why? Because, well, 1.5” just felt so limiting in my little creative world.
But, when Xyron sent me the 2.5” Create A Sticker…..wowza! It instantly changed my mind when it comes to sticker making. It’s amazing how freeing that extra inch can be in the world of crafting.
The first thing I noticed was no longer did I have that crinkly plastic film over the item I was stickering. And no longer did I have exposed adhesive! No sticky fingers, no messy glue, no fussing with glue dots (I’ve lovingly nicknamed them glue boogers….ha!).
What makes it even more awesome is that now, the backing material is even a bit different and my punches could go through it like butter! No more jammed punches.
So, for this layout, I ripped a handful of pages out of my 6x6 paper pad, and then trimmed them down to 1 ¼” wide. Placed two strips side by side, but not overlapping, then cranked them through the Create A Sticker machine.
Then I used a 1” circle punch to punch down the length of each patterned paper. In less than 5 minutes, I had 50+ 1” circles with edge-to-edge adhesive. All I needed to do was peel off the protective backing and stick them to my page.
So while the layered circle embellishing looks super fussy, reality is this page was constructed in 20 minutes tops!
Xyron 2.5” Create A Sticker? In my opinion, a must have in every scrapboooker’s tool arsenal. Get yourself one!

Acorn Hollow Layout by Biker Chick Liz Qualman
I love the bright colors of the Acorn Hollow collection. It is great for both autumn and everyday pages. I thought the collection would definitely compliment these photos of my son playing at the park. I clustered three photos (4x4, 4x5 and wallet-sized) to add more meaning from the day and to move the eyes around the page. My son is famous for his funny faces, so I had to add one instead of a traditional smiling photo. The baker's twine border keeps all the photos grounded in the middle.
I also love all of the beautiful foiling on the Acorn Hollow embellishments and how you can easily layer the clear cut stickers and chipboard shapes together. The green tree is a clear cut shape and the orange tree is chipboard.
The Xyron 2.5" Create-a-Sticker was super easy to use and perfect for both the chipboard and clear cut shapes. They easily crank through the machine and do NOT need to dry - which for an impatient scrapbooker like me, is a little slice of heaven. I was particularly happy that the adhesive was clear and does not ruin the clear cut shapes.
I liked the idea of tying the baker's twine together at the ends and then gluing it down as a "free form" frame. The black and white twine was a nice contrast to the fall colors and pulled the photos and papers together.
I'm a big fan of using LYB journal tickets and fresh verse stickers to make a title. It saves you from having to rely on alphabets and will fit together in fun clusters, like this one where I added a chipboard leaf and some jewel stickers as an accent.

Altered Project by Biker Chick Heather Leopard
Heather here to say that I am soo excited to play with the new Xyron
Create a Sticker product that they sent to the Little Yellow Bicycle
design team! It is so easy to make your own sticker from whatever paper
design you are working with. I just so happened to use the Little Yellow
Bicycle Acorn Hollow goodies for today's project, which is a paper
pumpkin.
I cut the pumpkin using my CAMEO and a cutting file I downloaded from
their store but you could easily do this by cutting multiple circles and
then perforating the inside edges to form a triangle. I also cut a stem
and set it aside. Once the circles were cut I ran them through the
sticker maker.
They came out on a long strip as shown below and all I had to do was peel them off. Instantly I had a great little sticker.
Next, I folded the circles at the edges and adhered them, sticky sides together, to each other, turning the perforated flaps up. I continued to adhere them to each other until they formed a "ball". I added the stem and some ribbon to top off the project.
I think these would look great with two more pumpkins in different sizes, perched on my table in the entryway.

Acorn Hollow Card by Biker Chick Jen Chesnick
Did you know the Xyron Create a Sticker machines work with chipboard? I first ran the raccoon chipboard piece from the Acorn Hollow chipboard set through my sticker maker. Next I layered it on top of the frame chipboard piece and ran it through again. The sticker maker didn't even flinch! Chipboard is no match! I simply pressed around the edged of the chipboard, peeled back the film and attached the chipboard to my card.

Happy Monday!
We have a very special treat for the next few weeks. Author Courtney Walsh has written a series of heartwarming novels with themes including friendship and scrapbooking. Today she shares some insights from her Sweethaven books about friendship and has asked her good friend Kelly Goree to create a layout about the theme with our very own Acorn Hollow collection. We'd also like to give our fans an opportunity to participate, so keep reading for a chance to win a copy of Courtney's book and maybe even some Acorn Hollow...
From Courtney---One thing that's always fascinated me is the female friendship. It's one of the most rewarding--yet challenging--relationships of all, and that's why I chose to focus on this theme when writing my Sweethaven series. I also wanted to pull in the idea of a beautiful old scrapbook bringing friends back together after too many years apart...In my mind, friendship and scrapbooking go hand-in-hand...after all, many of my favorite friends are those I've met because of this wonderful hobby.
I asked one of those friends, the wonderful Kelly Goree, to create a layout inspired by my books, more specifically, on the idea of friendship and she used a little Acorn Hollow to do just that. This layout is as fun as it is meaningful, and I'm sure both Kelly and her best friend will cherish the sentiments (and the layout) forever.
Scrapbooking is such an important part of my life--and such an important part of the whole Sweethaven series. I think (and hope) you'll be able to relate.
Acorn Hollow Page by Kelly Goree
We just love the bright colors of Kelly's design along with her black and white photobooth photos. The happy elements of the Acorn Hollow collection really compliment the fun pictures of Kelly and her friend.
Tip: When adding multiple photos in a row, especially ones with close ups, slightly tilt and overlap them for a more intimate feeling.
Jounraling: "To say I was blessed the day you walked into my dorm room almost twenty-five years ago wouldn’t even begin to describe it. There was no way of knowing that you, my mid-term replacement roommate freshman year of college, would become my lifelong best friend. I know physically we’re as different as two people can be (and you got the good end of that deal!) but we were soul sisters from the very start. We complimented each other. I talked you into trying things you never had done before (including coloring your hair for the first time – sorry!) and you taught me what true friendship was all about. I am so grateful and humbled that you are my “person.”
Please visit Kelly's blog Behind the Pages for more amazing ideas and inspiration.
GIVEAWAY 1 - We thought that the cover of Courtney's second book A Sweethaven Homecoming reminded us of our Acorn Hollow collection, so we are going to giveaway a copy of her book each week. Just tell us how scrapbooking has deepened some of your friendships and we will choose a lucky winner from the comments.
GIVEAWAY 2 - please visit Courtney's blog Telling Stories to learn more about her and a chance to win our entire Acorn Hollow collection. Just leave a comment for Courtney on her blog.
We cannot wait to share more of Courtney's thoughts and Kelly's amazing talent, but you will just have to wait until next week...
Have a wonderful and crafty weekend!
Biker Chick Heather Leopard shares a great home décor idea which she created with our Acorn Hollow collection. But let's have Heather tell you all about it...
Every year at this time of year I start to get in the holiday mood. It all starts in October with my 2 daughters' birthdays, then Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's all right in a row and it just gets me into the spirit of the holidays. Today I thought I'd show you a fun way to make this fun holiday wall decor.
This was so easy to make and I've received so many compliments on it already. I've included a supply list below but you will need embroidery hoop, muslin, mists, ribbon and Little Yellow Bicycle Acorn Hollow goodies. The first thing I did was measure and cut the muslin, leaving plenty around the edges so I could pull it taut. I then used spray mist to give it a little extra pizzazz. I added the burlap and ribbon and hooked the hoop together. This is where the real fun started.
I used the area inside the hoop to create little scenes. I layered chipboard and sticker trees and the little fox at the bottom. Then I added the "SO VERY thankful" sentiment over the ribbon.
Next I added the chipboard "FALL" letters and the tree limb, placing the owl sticker over the limb. I topped it off with a little flowers/leaves medley from the paper crafting kit. Ideally you would use this inside the house since I used a lot of paper product but I am sure you could seal it to use it on your front door. Luckily, my front door is under a large covered patio so that's where you'll find mine.
I plan to switch out the insides for the different holidays.

Gift Packaging by Biker Chick Robbie Herring
Making precious packages couldn't be easier when you have Little Yellow Bicycle paper and embellishments. A mix of tulle and rafia added to the Acorn Hollow Collection makes a great fall combination.

With a little help from the Target Dollar Spot, gift packaging is a breeze! Last time I was shopping at Target I picked up a cute little metal pail and felt bucket that I thought would help me incorporate my signature bright, colorful style, yet still match well with rich tones in the Acorn Hollow collection.
The yellow pail highlights a layered collage of mostly chipboard embellishments. While the felt bucket was already embellished with the gold and burgundy leaves, I added to the homespun look by hand stitching the “fall” chipboard letters to the bucket to give it a cohesive look.
Both are filled with shredded paper, a bottle of scented shower gel, and then finished off with an embellished journaling card that is just the perfect size for a short hand-written note. These two gifts went from drab to fabulous in less than 15 minutes.

We are fortunate to have some fantastic Acorn Hollow projects from returning Cycling Team Member Katrina Hunt. She's going to tell you all about it...
It’s Katrina here and I am so happy to be back on the Cycling Team for Acorn Hollow! I have a few projects, so we had better get to them.
I fell in love with this tree paper, but sometimes I find these types of scenes hard to use. My suggestion is to keep it simple. I just used a few papers from the 6x6 mini pad that is in the collection and some of the embellishments. Added a little twine and some foam dimensional adhesive to give some texture and called the layout done.
Acorn Hollow Products:

AH-304 6" x 6" Paper Pad
AH-279 Chipboard Shapes - with foil accents
AH-140 Cardstock Stickers - Fresh Verse - with foil and debossing
Then, the banner making girl that I am, I had to make a banner! I love that square canvas/chipboard mini album for these. I used strictly the 6x6 mini pad for my papers. And then I used an assortment of the clear cut shapes, chipboard shapes and the paper crafting kit to embellish and decorate.
Acorn Hollow Products:

AH-135 Cardstock Stickers - Favorite Pieces - with foil and embossing
AH-304 6" x 6" Paper Pad
AH-279 Chipboard Shapes - with foil accents
AH-230 Clear Cuts - with foil accents
I made a quick autumn card using the 6x6 mini pad and some of the embellishments. Are you seeing a theme yet?! And I can’t get enough of those stick pins. I usually try to stick them into some foam dimensional adhesive to cover those pointy ends. Bonus, it keeps them in place!

And then I created one more layout. I used four pieces from the 6x6 mini pad to give my background a quilted look and then just started layering on the sides and bottom. I wanted to be able to see those four squares. I also sanded my pictures edges to make them pop just a little bit more.

If only I could go back to 2009. My sweet little guy warms my heart on any cold day! Even though he is older, we still follow the same family traditions. I live in Sunny California, so it is sunny all year around! However, the Acorn Hollow collection is perfect for documenting your pumpkin patch photos, too.
On this page, I wanted to keep the emphasis on the photo. I kept my embellishments off to the left hand side of the page. One thing I love about LYB are all the embellishments that coordinate with the papers! I pulled my title from the journaling cards packet. I layered this on top of a scallop I punched from the coordinating 6x6 paper pad. There are lots of layers surrounding my title, and you can see how easily it is to build dimension, simply by pulling from the papercrafting kit, and the clear shapes. I fell in love with the leaf diecuts, and tucked them underneath the title. You will also see a bit of them in the bottom lower right hand side! This collection is full of browns, greens, and oranges! Just in time as the weather begins to change!

Our Biker Chicks have been busy altering items especially for Fall and we think they have some pretty fantastic ideas to inspire you with our Acorn Hollow collection...
Altered Chalkboard by Biker Chick Tania Willis
When creating a project for seasonal display in your home, look beyond a frameable project and lean into the more dimensional art with an altered item. Here, I’ve altered a chalkboard from my husband’s childhood by adhering embellishments directly onto the slate and frame of the board. If you use glue dots to adhere your items, you can even pull them back off after the season is over and create a new one for the next season!
The embellishments can even be recycled back into your stash or taken right from the altered item and place onto a layout using the same design, just replacing the center sentiment with a photo or two. If you’re looking for a more permanent option, I recommend using a hot glue gun to adhere your embellishments.

Altered Milk Bottles by Biker Chick Lisa Swift
I bought these small milk bottle-shaped vases at Target's Dollar Spot some time ago. They came with rub on words that said "live", "love" and "laugh". Over time the letters started flaking off (well, washing them may have had something to do with that, LOL) and I put them aside with the intention that I would alter them "some day". When I was given the assignment to create an altered project for today's blog post, I knew exactly what I was going to do. With just a few supplies from the Acorn Hollow collection, I was able to transform these cuties from drab to fab and I now have some cute fall decor to boot! Let's take a closer look at the individual pieces...
This one uses just three pieces from the Paper Crafting Kit and a small band of patterned paper from the 6x6 Paper Pad.
Uses the same supplies as the first piece with a scrap of twine added in to finish it off.
This last example uses leaves from the Paper Crafting Kit and one of the 5 Things Pockets (number 3 because we're a family of 3).
So there you have it. A simple and fun fall decor project. :)

We are so happy to share some wonderful Acorn Hollow projects from Cycling Team Member Audrey Pettit today.
Hi everyone! I am so, so excited to be back this month, sharing some fun projects for the Acorn Hollow Cycling Team!
Autumn is my very favorite time of year. I love the crispness in the air, the pumpkin patches, the changing colors of the leaves, and I LOVE to decorate my home to reflect the season. I knew as soon as I saw the Acorn Hollow embellishments that I wanted to make a wall hanging using those adorable chipboard trees from the Chipboard Shapes pack. And the owl, too. Cannot resist those cutie pie owls!
Don't you just love the foil accents on the chipboard shapes? They are so beautiful, you don't need much else to create fabulous projects. I simply arranged the pieces into a cluster, and added a few buttons for detail. Simple Simon!
The base of the wall hanging is made from recycled corrugated cardboard that I cut from an old shipping box. I added a bit of paint and ink to the board, and layered it with the pretty green patterned paper. Added my chipboard cluster, using foam adhesive on some of the pieces to create depth, and then made a little hanger from hemp cord. A cardstock border sticker and small banner flags dress up the top of the hanging, along with some leaf trim and a big happy bow.
The harvest sentiment was made with another chipboard piece and one of the Fresh Verse stickers. I added more leaf trim and finished the hanging with a scalloped strip from the Paper Crafting Kit.
As a card maker, I am particularly smitten with the petite size of the 6x6 Paper Pads. And I completely love the mix and match layered embellishments you can make from the Paper Crafting Kits. I had so much fun building my flower here from all the shapes available. With all the possible combinations included in the kit, the creative possibilities are endless.
I used two prints from the 6x6 pad to create my card base, and then added a bit of machine stitching for detail. I added the rest of the text-print scalloped strip left over from my previous project down the center, and layered that with a die cut banner. A few pop dots behind the folds in the banner create some fun dimension.
To give extra depth to the focal flower, I stitched two of my layers and folded the petals upwards along the seams. Folded the leaves, too, and added the flower and a bow to my card using foam adhesive. A button and a few stickers finish things off.
While I had my card-making supplies out, I made one last card for a friend. She is a huge owl lover, too, so I knew she would enjoy this card for her birthday.
Kraft cardstock and two more prints from the 6x6 Paper Pad make up the base of the card. A chipboard branch makes a perfect perch for the owl. Another flower from the Paper Crafting Kit. A bow, a banner, and a sentiment sticker are the final touch. Quick and easy, and my girlfriend loved it!

Have a wonderful day!
Biker Chick Lisa Swift joins us today with an Acorn Hollow project, but let's have her tell you all about it...
Fall is my favorite season (just like the Fresh Verse sticker on my layout says). The brilliant colors alone are amazing, but add in crisp apples and pretty pumpkins and I'm sold. Our first apple picking trip this year resulted in five pounds of Gala apples that my husband turned into a delicious spiced applesauce. I think it's time to go back to the orchard to see what's ready for picking and ask him to make his famous apple crumb pie. :)
Layering is one of my favorite techniques to use on a page. Overlapping and clustering elements adds interest to a layout and gives it a nice cohesive look. Even with the number of embellishments I used on here, the photo still takes center stage.
Don't be afraid to "repurpose" or even alter embellishments. Look at them as separate parts to be used in different ways. For example, the 5 Things Pockets from the Acorn Hollow collection come with fun doodled journaling inserts. Rather than keeping the two pieces together, I used the insert as a grounding element for the "sweet" sticker and the pocket to house a chipboard owl (and how cute is that owl?)
Other ways to change up or enhance embellishments are: add a rhinestone or pearl center to a floral stick pin or use buttons at the end of a banner to add some texture and dimension.
I hope the ideas I shared today will help you look at your embellishments in a new way. :)

Happy Thursday!
Today our Biker Chicks Heather, Jenny and Corrie have some gorgeous Fall pages to share with our Acorn Hollow collection. Here at LYB - located in New England - we really get into Fall and each year we have a wonderful collection to record our memories and we think you will LOVE Acorn Hollow just as much as we do...
Fall in Texas can be a bit unpredictable, but all in all it's usually in the 70's/80's and we spend a lot more time outdoors. Each year we make the trek from city life to country life and enjoy a day at a local farm, where you can interact with farm animals of all kinds, take a hayride, pick you own pumpkins and soo much more. It really is a day's worth of fun fill activities. One thing we always love to do is climb up on the tractors and pretend to be tending to the crops. The Acorn Hollow collection is great for all your fall photos but it's very versatile with the rich colors. Perfect for any nature lover as well.
I used the paper crafting kit and a Fresh Verse sticker to create my title "Happy Harvest".
The journaling cards in this collection are soo cool...some have foil on them and others have fun decorative edging. I used mine to feature some hidden journaling, which I wrote on after this photo was taken.

For this fall layout I created my title using my Silhouette software. Nothing fancy to it really! To create your title type out your letters using the text box, right click and "un-group" your letters. Layout your letters and shapes so they are overlapping or touching on an edge somewhere. Then select all and click "weld". It might take a few tries! Just keep moving your letters around until they connect. Once they are welded select all again and choose "group" that will keep all your dots and things together for cutting.

We are so pleased to introduce our newest wearers of the Yellow Jersey for our Acorn Hollow collection. It's getting a little crazy around here with all the Fall happenings, so we decided to invite back a few former cycling team members and friends to create with this collection, BUT today starts the call for our Once Upon a Christmas collection. Please welcome our Acorn Hollow Cycling Team
Come Ride with Us for Once Upon A Christmas
Here's what we're looking for:
With each new collection we like to invite a few new designers (about 3-5 per collection) to come design for us. We ask Cycling Team members to commit to a month of designing after the collection is released. In return, we'll send you some free product and shamelessly promote you along with ourselves on our blog and facebook page. Read the details below:
1) Make at least one project with what we send you - a layout, some cards, a mini album, an altered item...whatever makes you happy!
2) Send us some pictures of it, and a little write-up or how-to of how you created it.
3) Post it on your blog, facebook page and any online galleries you belong to. We'll put it here on our blog too, of course!
That's it!
Tryouts for this team are starting RIGHT NOW!
If you are interested, please send us three (3) samples of your best work (preferably with LYB products because that is what we like to look at most, however it's not a deal breaker if you send something else) to designteams@mylyb.com. Also, if you have previously designed for a Cycling Team, please feel free to apply again! Please send us your application by Wednesday, October 10th and we'll announce the NEW Once Upon a Christmas Cycling Team on Monday, October 15th. Please also include your contact information (address, phone and blog) in your email.
And then we'll ask you to hop on that Little Yellow Bicycle and pedal your heart out!
Happy Monday!
We are so pleased to introduce our newest wearers of the Yellow Jersey. We always have so much enthusiasm for Little Yellow Bicycle and were very pleased with all of the applications we received and of course it was very difficult to choose. We said we would choose between 3-5 cycling team members per collection and this time we actually chose 6 designers. So...riding with us for our Makin' the Grade Cycling Team will be the following talented and inspiring designers. Please click on their names to see their blogs and get to know them a little bit more.
BUT WAIT - there's more... Little Yellow Bicycle has 3 more new collections to release from CHA Summer. AND...we will need a cycling team for each and every collection! Since, each collection has a personality of its own, we are looking for designers whose style will showcase the collection. In other words, if you were/are interested in being a cycling team member look for future calls and if your style suits the collection, we want you to come ride with us!
Stay tuned for Acorn Hollow...
Happy Monday!
Liz
